New Community is a place of becoming where together we are committed to extravagant welcome and engaging in the ongoing story of Jesus.

Believe

Grounded in the historic creeds of the Church (Apostles and Nicene), New Community is grateful to be a diverse community made up of individuals who hold a variety of beliefs and perspectives. When it comes to our theology and ethics, we believe our faith compels us to radical welcome and justice. That is why we celebrate women and their gifts in all levels of leadership, fully affirm and include our LGBTQ siblings, and are deeply committed to the work of antiracism both personally and corporately as we pursue a more just and diverse future together.

    To be present and open to seeing God in each other and to be actively participating in the community is at the center of what it means for us to engage. We aspire to be a people that love well in the heart of the city.

    We believe the way of Jesus is an invitation into peace. To become our most transformed selves opens us to the movement of restoration in our own lives and inspires us to be a part of this movement in Spokane.

A TYPICAL SUNDAY

ORDER OF WORSHIP
Visiting a church gathering for the first time can be a little intimidating, so here are some details about what a usual Sunday looks like. Hopefully this helps take the edge off.

WELCOME / CALL TO WORSHIP
We welcome you and invite you to engage with the community in worship. A short prayer or reflection begins our time and settles our spirits.

WE'LL SING
We join in a practice the church has engaged in for thousands of years as a way to unite the gathered church and prepare ourselves to hear what God might be saying.

WE'LL CHAT FOR A FEW MINUTES
We make room for conversation so that we can greet one another and start a conversation that will hopefully spill over outside of the gathering.

WE'LL PRACTICE LITURGY
Together we read prayer, confession and the sacred text that the church has long echoed, as well as recent prayers we have written. At times we will follow the liturgical church calendar to join together with the church global in worship.

WE'LL TEACH FROM THE BIBLE
We teach from a passage in the Bible and seek together to discern what God might be telling us both individually and collectively.

WE'LL RECEIVE EUCHARIST
We consistently cultivate a time and space for sharing as a community the gift of communion as a symbolic and spiritual act. At New Comm, the table of communion is open to anyone who wants to engage in the ongoing story of Jesus.

LGBTQ+ Belonging

We welcome and invite LGBTQ+ persons and families to full participation in all levels of community, partaking in sacraments, serving in ministry, joining in mission, and holding leadership roles as they are called.
