Internship

The Internship here at New Community equips the heart and mind for a life of service in God’s Kingdom. It is designed for married or single men and women. Many of the interns are college students, although we also have a significant amount interns that have completed college, or have been in a career for several years. It is generally a twenty-hour per week commitment, with the internship starting at the beginning of September and culminating at the end of the following May. It is our intent for the hearts and minds of interns to be formed into a life of service for God’s kingdom. To help achieve this, we have strategically incorporated five avenues of learning into the program. The five pieces are the Academic, Missional Exposure, Practical Ministry, Service, and Spiritual Formation. As the interns engage in these areas they will:

  - hear from key ministry leaders throughout Spokane and beyond.
  - read and study important writings on the subjects of theology, church history, biblical studies,   ministry, spiritual formation and other various topics.
  - employ their gifts and abilities to serve in God’s church.
  - observe and get up-close with key ministries throughout Spokane and worldwide.
   - have the opportunity to discover their God given gifts and god’s calling for their life of service.
  - operate in both an area of passion and an area of service to be exposed as much as possible to   actual ministry.
  - meet regularly with a mentor and staff member to debrief and receive input
  - consider historically how the church has operated and reflect on the different polity forms   employed.
  - time to hear from other pastors and ministry leaders.
  - sit in on seminars and conference offered locally.
  - hangout and dialogue about church and ministry and how it functions with others who share the   same desire and objectives in life.
  - read, interact with, and get to know the Scriptures on a daily basis.
  - grapple with key issues such as the redemptive themes in Scripture, the canonization of Scripture   and the veracity and reliability of Scripture.
  - think through their own philosophy of ministry, to better understand how they believe ministry   besttakes place.
  - get all this and so much more as they see God use them to make a difference in others lives and   the community at large.
